Our Story
Honoring a Legacy, Perfecting Tradition
Char Smoke Fire Barbecue was established in 2023 in honor and memory of Jody and Laura’s son, Charles Steven Francisco. Jody, Laura and Steven lived in Frederick, MD for 13 years until moving to Clover, SC in 2017.
Jody is a professionally-trained chef who began his career as a prep cook, sous chef and ultimately executive chef at a variety of upscale restaurants in Baltimore and Frederick, Maryland. He further broadened his understanding of the food industry with jobs in food sales management, restaurant design, non-profit food service, corporate chef-ing and K-12 school nutrition.

While furthering his career in the food and beverage industry, Chef Jody has been perfecting his barbecue for over two decades and creates his own blends of spices for his ribs, brisket, pork, and chicken. Char Smoke Fire uses top-quality, locally-sourced meats and features homemade sides. We are available for food truck events as well as private catering for that special occasion. Jody is happy to work with you to develop a menu that will be perfect for your event.

A portion of proceeds go to the Charles Steven Francisco Foundation, supporting music education programs and access to mental health services at Clover High School.
